GALLERY 46-04 - 2023 Glacier National Park - 3 September, 2023 - 60 Photos.

Introduction - After the 13-day 2023 Alaska Wildlife Adventure Photography Tour held from 16th thru the 28th of August, I and an Australian friend of mine, Kelvin Blake, that I had met on one of my previous photography tours to Borneo, headed to Glacier National Park after a short visit to Yellowstone NP. Kelvin had already signed up for the Alaska tour with Chris Bray, an Australian professional photographer, and requested me to join him and the group of Aussies who had signed up for Alaska Wildlife Adventure. He also requested that after the Alaska Tour; he wanted to visit some of the National Parks here in the USA to make his trip worthwhile. We settled on flying back to my place in Bozeman, MT after the Alaska trip and head from there to Yellowstone NP, which is just 65 miles SE of Bozeman and then drive to Glacier NP, which is half a day’s drive from Yellowstone. He had a week left here in the USA, so that would work out just fine. He would fly to Seattle after our return from Glacier and stay with friends in Seattle before returning to Australia. It was quite an adventure, and I had hired a private guide, Sarah Ehlen of Glacier Tour Guides, Inc. to drive us thru Glacier so that I could also learn more about the wildlife and landscape and not have to watch out for traffic on the single road thru the park. August is a very busy month and hitting the road early is a must. Glacier had enacted obtaining a road pass prior to entering the park to reduce the amount of traffic (1 million visitors per year from mid-July to late September) on the single road in the park requiring a reservation with a limit on the number of passes per day. You had to show your vehicle pass at the park gate to enter, but the gate opened at 6:00 am. So, anybody that got thru the gate before 6:00 avoided the gate pass restriction as both the east and west gates were not blocked. Our guide told us that the smart thing to get an early start and some sunrise shots was to drive from the west side where we were staying to the south around the park and enter thru the east gate and drive the Going to the Sun Road west thru the pass following the sun as it heads west and also get great sunset shots. Good plan. There is less traffic on the east side of the park and our chances for wildlife would be much better following the light. Well, thing worked out very well and Kelvin was most pleased. Our guide shared valuable insight to the history of the park and wildlife management and is an expert on landscape shots, which Kelvin wanted to work on. Great trip…..JDT
